Do not make contact details a treasure hunt
A visitor who has decided to request an estimate should not need to search several menus. Put a clear contact route in the main navigation and on relevant service pages. On mobile, ensure telephone numbers are tappable and the form can be completed without zooming or precision typing.
Say what will happen when the customer gets in touch
People may hesitate because they assume they must accept a sales visit. Briefly explain whether you start with a phone conversation, request photographs or arrange a survey. If quotations require an inspection, say so. Never promise instant or fixed pricing for work whose condition and preparation needs are unknown.
Make location and services visible alongside the form
A contact page can prevent wasted time by naming your real service area and the main decorating work you undertake. If someone is outside it, they should find out before filling in details. Avoid an enormous keyword list of towns; a straightforward coverage description works better for people.
Test all the failure points
Check that forms deliver to a monitored mailbox, spam filtering does not silently discard submissions, required fields work correctly and confirmation messages are clear. If you use call tracking, verify the displayed phone number forwards properly. Run tests after website updates, not only on launch day.
Do I need a contact form and phone number?
Both can help if you can monitor them. Provide a clear fallback rather than forcing every customer into one contact method.
Try the contact page as a potential customer
Imagine a homeowner opens your contact page on a train. They see a large map, a hidden email address, a form with fifteen compulsory fields and no indication of which areas you cover. They may reasonably give up. A more useful first screen would show the business name, service area, a tappable number, a brief enquiry form and an explanation of when the team normally responds.
Submit a real test message from a private browsing window, try an invalid postcode, leave an optional photo field empty and check whether the confirmation is understandable. Look in the correct inbox and the spam folder. If the site uses a third-party form, confirm that its email or API connection still works after changes. An attractive contact page that loses messages is a business risk.
Checks for this particular enquiry journey
- Display contact methods prominently without scrolling puzzles.
- State real service areas and response expectations.
- Test success and error states on mobile.
- Confirm messages actually reach a monitored inbox.
