Should a Decorator Use Wix, WordPress or a Bespoke Website?

4 min read

Wix, WordPress and bespoke websites can all produce a good decorator website. The best choice depends less on the platform name and more on who will maintain it, how your enquiry process works and what you want to change later.

When a DIY builder makes sense

A solo decorator who enjoys updating their own site and needs only a few clear pages may be comfortable with a hosted website builder. You can publish service information, project galleries and a simple form without commissioning complex development. Budget for the time needed to write useful copy and test every page.

The trade-off is responsibility. You still need to keep opening hours, service areas, reviews and photographs current, and you must understand what happens to the site if you stop paying for the platform. Convenient editing does not automatically produce strong mobile usability or local search visibility.

What WordPress changes

WordPress can be flexible for portfolios, service pages and publishing advice. That flexibility also means choosing themes, plugins, hosting and an update process. An oversized theme with numerous extensions can make a small decorating site harder to maintain than necessary.

Ask who will manage software updates, backups, security and plugin compatibility. Also clarify whether the site uses the freely available WordPress software on independent hosting or a particular managed service, since control and migration options differ.

When a bespoke or managed build earns its place

A tailored website is more compelling if your business needs a carefully designed quotation journey, separate domestic and commercial pathways, distinctive project case studies or custom integrations. But “bespoke” is not a guarantee of speed, security or enquiries: request evidence of what the designer actually builds and supports.

For many decorators, the strongest proposition is an uncomplicated, managed site that clearly presents work and sends enquiries reliably. LLTT Media offers managed website design; compare exactly what is included, what is charged separately and how changes are handled before committing.

Compare the outcome, not just the software

Ask each provider to explain who owns the domain, where the website lives, what happens when support ends and whether you can move your content. Request a mobile demonstration, a working test form and a sensible process for adding new completed projects.

Do not assume one option ranks better simply because of its technology. Helpful service pages, accurate locations, fast loading, clear navigation, links from relevant sources and a well-maintained site matter across platforms. Choose the arrangement you can sustain while running your decorating business.

Choose a platform using three real changes

Instead of asking which platform is “best for SEO”, test three changes your decorating business will actually need. First, can you add a new wallpapering project with several photographs and a useful caption? Second, can you change the service-area list when your travel limits change? Third, can you adjust a quotation form without breaking submissions? Ask the provider to demonstrate those actions or explain how their support team handles them.

Next compare the exit route. With a website builder, export options and platform dependence vary. With WordPress, site control depends on the hosting and plugin arrangements. With a bespoke managed build, ask what assets, content and access you retain, and what migration help is available. The right answer is the system that keeps enquiries working while remaining affordable and manageable for your business; the platform label is secondary.

  • Test routine project, location and form changes.
  • Identify who performs security updates and backups.
  • Ask for the domain, hosting and content exit arrangements.
  • Judge the enquiry journey on an actual phone.
